This blog will be a journal for the process i go through to get MBA. I am doing this as i think it will help others who are planning to do MBA to get a feel about the process.
To say a few words about myself, i am IT professional, female with about 5 yrs experience, blessed with a lovely son and a beautiful family who are encouraging me to pursue MBA.
I have been thinking about doing MBA for couple of years.
This year, thanks to my husband and landmark, i am applying for few schools.
Obviously, my first step was to book for GMAT. I am giving it on Oct 12th, approximately one month form now.
Quantitative Section:
Being an engineer graduate, i thought quant section will be a cake walk. On contrary, i found out that i need to concentrate to avoid making silly mistakes. One more thing is to let go of lengthy problems, think in a different way.
Here is the strategy i am going to follow for quant.
1. Read question twice
2. Try to solve without calculations (guessing)
2. try substitution if possible
3. try to solve the problem by taking simple values (especially for percentage calculations)
4. Don't solve problems for DS
5. For DS, Don't consider statement 1, when solving for statement 2
6. if problem is taking more than 3 minutes, stop right there.
Usually i complete quant section 20 minutes before time limit, but i tend to make lot of mistakes.
Next month, i will solve OG 11/12 problems and brush probability and work problem basics
Verbal Section:
Just thinking about verbal section gives me shivers. I am simply bad at it.
My strategy is to go through basic grammar, Manhattan SC guide, OG 11/12, OG verbal , 1000SC.
I am average at Critical reasoning, not because i cant get the argument but because i don't read the question properly. My strategy here is to convert argument and question into my own language. I find questions little distracting sometimes.
Even RC seems little difficult. I am yet to find a strategy for this. Right now i skim through the passage and then attack questions.
AWA: I will follow a standard template. Not planning to spend to much time here.
I am planning to give around 15-20 cats before my test.
My Journey starts...with short term goal to get 780 on GMAT
